Nick is a Clinical Psychologist who is keenly interested in the psychology of relationships and supporting supporting couples through relationship challenges and transitions of all kinds. Nick has experience assisting couples with conflict, emotional distance, gender & sexuality, sexual intimacy and dysfunction, infidelity, consensual non-monogamy, and differences in culture and religion.
Nick is passionate about supporting the lives and relationships fellow members of the LGBTQIA+ community. He has completed two dissertations investigating the relationship standards (beliefs, values, expectations) and satisfaction of LGBTQIA+ relationships. Nick’s first dissertation, Assessment of Couple Relationships Standards in Same-Sex Attracted Adults, was published in the Journal of Family Process in 2020.
Using Emotionally-Focused Therapy, Nick empowers partners to work together and strengthen their relationships by improving communication, security and intimacy. He assists clients to develop safe and secure attachments in their relationships, building insights into their own and partners’ emotional and attachment needs to foster connection in relationships and defuse cycles of conflict and escalation. Nick strives to create a safe, supportive and warm therapeutic environment to assist clients in redefining their relationship in terms of emotional security, availability and responsiveness.
In individual therapy, Nick incorporates a variety of evidence-based therapies and strategies to support his clients’ mental health and quality of life. Nick values building strong, authentic, candid relationships with his clients in order to help them achieve their goals and pursue fulfilling lives. Nick is experienced working with a wide range of presentations, including depression, anxiety disorders, OCD, personality vulnerabilities, eating disorders, navigating diversity in gender and sexuality, interpersonal problems, life transitions and sexual dysfunction.
